Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits the growth of most bacteria, making the solution safe for repeated use from a single vial over an extended period - unlike standard sterile water, which must be used immediately after opening to prevent microbial contamination. This multi-draw capability makes BAC water the standard choice for reconstituting lyophilised research peptides, where a single vial may be used across multiple aliquots over days or weeks.

All Pure Grade Labs peptides are supplied in lyophilised (freeze-dried) form. Before use, they must be reconstituted by adding an appropriate volume of solvent. Bacteriostatic water is the recommended reconstitution solvent for the majority of peptides in our catalogue, as it is compatible with all water-soluble peptides, maintains sterility across multiple draws, and does not interfere with the downstream biological activity of reconstituted compounds in research settings.

What it contains:Water for injection (WFI) meeting USP standards, preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol (9mg/ml). No other additives, buffers, or excipients. The solution is colourless, clear, and sterile-filtered prior to filling.

Why benzyl alcohol: Benzyl alcohol is a well-characterised bacteriostatic preservative that inhibits bacterial replication without affecting the activity of dissolved peptides in research concentrations. It is the preservative used in most pharmaceutical-grade multi-dose injectable products globally.

Multi-draw capability: Once the rubber septum is pierced, sterile water degrades rapidly. BAC water maintains bacteriostatic integrity for up to 28 days after first use when stored correctly at 2-8°C, allowing multiple withdrawals from a single vial without replacing it after every aliquot.

Concentration control: Adding a known volume of BAC water to a known mass of lyophilised peptide gives a precise, calculable concentration. The 10ml vial volume allows flexible dosing across a wide range of reconstitution concentrations depending on your protocol requirements.
